Experimental Study on BMR of CO Poisoned White Rats

Abstract
The auther intended to assess the validity of BMR in the hope to set on of the standard for the evaluation of effects of treatment for acute CO poisoning through a series of experiments using albino rats.
The major findings obtained from this experiment were as follows:
1) BMR decreased in proportion to the degree of CO intoxication.
2) BMR fluctuated corresponding to the degree of tissue intoxication in CO poisoning.
3) Withdrawal of rats from 1% CO circumstances to ordinary air appeared to be sufficient for the rats to recover from acute CO poisoning of they had been free of brain damages. BMR increased in proportion to the degree of recovery from acute CO poisoning.
4) BMR of CO poisoned white rats, therefore, constituted measurements of the degree of inhibition of tissue respiration in acute CO poisoning.
